MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte will reject President Donald Trump’s invitation to the White House, Malacañang said Friday.
Trump first invited Duterte to visit Washington in 2016 in a phone call.
“He (Duterte) has stated that he will respond to the invitation and will refuse,” Duterte spokesman Salvador Panelo said.
Trump’s invitation went public after President Duterte ordered a ban on 2 US senators who support his critics, Sen. Leila de Lima
“He (Duterte) said he had not intended to visit the US ever since,” Panelo said.

However, Panelo made it clear that Duterte had no feelings for Trump despite the Republican leader’s signing of the $ 1.4-trillion 2020 government budget that included a provision on a possible US ban on Filipino government officials involved in the “wrongful imprisonment” of De Lima.
Trump signed legislation banning De Lima jailers from entering the US.
In recent speeches, Duterte has repeatedly stated that he will no longer visit the United States during his presidency but has yet to release a formal statement on the matter.
